WS45-D250

The SICK WS/WE45-D250 is a coded safety interlock switch designed for the guard locking of movable safety guards, doors, and access points on machinery. It fulfills safety functions up to PL e according to ISO 13849-1 and SIL 3 according to IEC 62061. Its primary purpose is to reliably monitor the position of a guard (open/closed) and, crucially, to electromechanically lock the guard in the closed position until it is safe to open, preventing hazardous machine motion from being initiated while the guard is open or allowing access only after a safe state is achieved.

Key Features
Guard Locking Function: Incorporates a solenoid-based locking mechanism that physically prevents the guard door from being opened while machine hazards are present. The lock can only be released by a separate, safe control signal from the safety controller.

High Safety Integrity: Meets the requirements for the highest safety levels: Category 4, PL e, and SIL 3.

Coded Actuation System: Utilizes a unique, mechanically coded actuator (the -D250 suffix refers to this specific actuator type). This coding prevents defeat or tampering by using a standard screwdriver or other incorrect object, ensuring only the designated actuator can operate the switch.

Dual-Channel Output: Provides two separate, redundant N/O (Normally Open) safety contacts (mechanically linked), which are monitored by the safety controller to detect faults and ensure safe operation.

Forced-Break Guidance (Positive Opening): The safety contacts are designed to physically break the electrical circuit in a guaranteed way when the door is opened, even in the event of contact welding, ensuring functional safety.

Multiple Actuator Styles: The -D250 actuator is a common trapezoidal design, offering a robust and secure connection to the switch body.

Robust Metal Housing: Constructed from a zinc die-cast metal housing, making it highly resistant to mechanical impact, shock, and vibration.

3. Technical Specifications
Safety Rating: ISO 13849-1: PL e, Category 4 | IEC 62061: SIL 3

Contact Configuration: 2 N/O (Normally Open) safety contacts + 1 N/O monitoring contact for the lock status.

Locking Force: Typically > 2000 N (This high force resists deliberate forced opening).

Supply Voltage for Lock: 24 V DC (for the solenoid lock mechanism)

Operating Voltage for Contacts: 24...240 V AC/DC

Switching Current: e.g., 6 A

Mechanical Life: > 1,000,000 cycles

Connection: Fixed cable (The "D" in the actuator code often indicates a version with a fixed cable outlet).

Housing Material: Zinc die-cast

Ingress Protection Rating: Typically IP67 (Dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion) when installed with the correct gasket and actuator.
